Building off the lore from the base game and introducing a variety of challenging new mechanics for players to navigate, memorize, and strategize around, the boss roster in Shadow of the Erdtree is nothing to scoff at; but of these new additions, which of these new adversaries stands out for being the best?

Honorable Mention

Bayle-from-Elden-Ring-snarling

Unfortunately, Bayle the Dread is not a remembrance boss in Shadow of the Erdtree, but he’s become such a cultural icon thanks to Igon’s iconic quote: “CURSE YOU, BAYLE!” in addition to the boss fight just all around encompassing the feeling of fighting an ancient, mighty dragon that it’s hard not to give him a shoutout. Not to mention, Bayle has one of the best themes in the entire DLC and excellently written lore than makes felling him all the more satisfying.

10. Scadutree Avatar

The-Scadutree-Avatar-from-Elden-Ring

Despite the fact that the Scadutree Avatar has a very well-designed arena a perfectly orchestrated battle theme, the creature is lacking in the lore department, with what is known about it being mostly left up to presumption.

With three separate phases, the Scaduetree Avatar’s moveset and mechanics can feel clunky, as many of its abilities fail to truly flow with the beast or capture what makes its design so interesting. While being an interesting challenge to go up against, it’s by far the DLC’s weakest Remembrance fight.

9. Putrescent Knight

Putrescent-Knight-from-Elden-Ring

Located in the Fissure Depths, the Putrescent Knight is a hulking mass of rotting flesh dedicated to serving St. Trina. While lacking in the lore department, the Putrescent Knight has an amazing accompanying track when fighting him, and his mechanics can be really fun to learn and strategize around.

Unfortunately, though, the hulking undead knight is overshadowed by the DLC’s other boss battles with fleshed out lore. While fun, the Putrescent Knight lacks the substance to make him a truly memorable foe.

8. Commander Gaius

Commander-Gaius-from-Elden-Ring

A friend to Messmer who was once noted as a legendary military strategist and warrior, Commander Gaius was once a rival to Radahn, and similarly to his friend, is a rather tragic figure in the lore; cursed from his heritage as an Albinauric to someday lose the use of his legs who accompanied Messmer when he left for the Land of Shadow on Marika’s orders.

Gaius’ fight is no joke – it’s easily considered one of the most difficult and frustrating in Shadow of the Erdtree due to his relentless combos. However, despite how frustrating it can be to go against him and his hulking boar companion, his arena looks incredible, and perfectly fits Gaius’ story – even if weaving around the abandoned weaponry can add to potential frustrations when trying to evade his attacks. Plus, the flashy flavor in his abilities make him a memorable foe to take down.

7. Divine Beast Dancing Lion

The-Divine-Dancing-Lion-from-Elden-Ring

Easily possessing one of the best designs and battle themes in the DLC, as well as an incredible introductory cutscene, the Divine Beast Dancing Lion fight is unforgiving mechanically, and at times can feel a bit clunky, even on repeat attempts. Unfortunately, despite the Dancing Lion’s incredible design, the arena the boss is placed in is relatively bland.

Filled with potential due to Divine Beasts being seen as “Messengers of the Heavens” in Elden Ring‘s lore and other intricate bits of design flavor, there were unfortunately too many aspects of the Divine Dancing Beast that caused it to fall flat when compared to other bosses encountered in the DLC.

6. Romina, Saint of the Bud

Romina-Saint-of-the-Bud-from-Elden-Ring

A horrific amalgamation of different insects and humanoid features, Romina can pose a challenge for unprepared players while still being relatively well-balanced. The fight against her is unavoidable, and her lore is condensed compared to other encounters in the DLC.

Something particularly interesting about Romina despite her condensed origin story and lore is how seamlessly she’s integrated with her environment. Located in the Church of the Bud, Romina is an incredibly well-planned boss that clearly had a lot of care put into her design and battle mechanics.

5. Metyr Mother of Fingers

Metyr-Mother-of-Fingers-from-Elden-Ring

One of the more grotesque bosses appearance-wise, Metyr is a visual spectacle of a battle with lore implications that run deep into Marika’s backstory. Thanks to Ymir’s questline, players are finally able to face off against the Mother of Fingers, and it delivered.

Located in an ethereal arena in the Finger Ruins of Miyr, Metyr moves rather slowly, but is capable of creating distance to deliver devestating magic attacks against the player. While her battle is far from being the most difficult in the DLC, the visual flair she provides in addition to being arguably one of the most lore-relevant encounters in the game makes her one of the most memorable.

4. Promised Consort Radahn

Promised-Consort-Radahn-from-Elden-Ring

The official final boss fight of the DLC, the culmination of every quest and encounter the Tarnished has accomplished on their adventure through the Land of Shadows, the battle against the Promised Consort Radahn is nothing to scoff at. In a cinematic confrontation, Miquella, after enchanting Mohg and putting Radahn’s soul into his body, uses him as a “puppet” to fight back against the Tarnished to further his plans to create an “ideal” world using his charms.

Capable of using the same Bloodflame and Gravity Magic, this fight is an uphill battle to say the least. With a flashy moveset in the first phase that morphs into an epic battle against both Radahn and Miquella in the second, the fight is excellently designed, with only a few drawbacks for how overloaded some of the pair’s abilities are.

3. Midra, Lord of Frenzied Flame

Midra-Lord-of-Frenzied-Fram-from-Elden-Ring-

Midra Lord of Frenzied Flame is an incredibly interesting and challenging boss fight in Shadow of the Erdtree. After previously attempting to become a Lord of Frenzied Flame and failing, Midra finally succeeds in ascending after coming into contact with the Tarnished. The encounter also provides more insight on the Frenzied Flame from the base game.

The fight poses a good challenge for players, with a strong mixed of ranged and melee abilities that forces players to try and fight him in close-quarters combat. All-in-all, it’s a solid fight that, despite being optional, every player should try at least a few times.

2. Rellana Twin Moon Knight

Rellana-Twin-Moon-Knight-from-Elden-Ring-

Despite being an optional boss in the DLC, Rellana is a battle that every player should experience. Heavily tied to Messmer the Impaler’s lore – even being known as “Messmer’s Sword”. Rellana was once a princess of the Carrion family and is the younger sister of Rennala, who left behind her life to remain at Messmer’s side once he was sent to the Land of Shadow.

The fight against Rellana is one of the game’s flashiest and feels incredibly rewarding. Her abilities and moveset boast incredible visuals that excellent precursor to the battle against Messmer the Impaler.

1. Messmer the Impaler

Messmer-the-Impaler-from-Elden-Ring-

Widely considered the secondary antagonist in the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, Messmer is a Demi-god and the son of Queen Marika, who was used as a weapon to wage war on any who opposed his mother before being sent to the Land of Shadow. In the lore, Messmer is a shockingly tragic figure who was used by his mother to become a detestable warlord – but he realized this truth too late.

Mechanically, the fight against Messmer is a very fair but extremely challenging fight that tests the player’s ability to memorize his fiery combos. He has two phases, each of which offer insight on his tragedy and his relationship to Marika. His arena is hauntingly gorgeous, and the music that accompanies the fight against him is absolutely perfect, making Messmer hands-down the best Remembrance boss in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree.

10 Best Pokémon Games Of All Time https://attackofthefanboy.com/gaming/best-pokemon-games-all-time-ranked/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/gaming/best-pokemon-games-all-time-ranked/#respond Wed, 24 Jul 2024 02:13:19 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=987498 Pokémon is a franchise with a loaded history that’s managed to stand the test of time with video games, a solid anime adaptation with multiple spin-offs, a manga, a TCG – the list goes on.

The heart of this series lies in its games, of course, and while there have been a few misses – there are a plenty of key standouts in the franchise, especially with its spin-off titles, that have helped it stay relevant for so many years.

Pokémon Red & Green (1996)

It May Seem Cliche, But Red & Green Deserve Recognition For Starting It All

Pokemon-red-and-green-cover-art

While the first game in the Pokémon franchise may be lacking in all the features that have kept the game popular today, it will always and forever be iconic for being the game that started it all. There’s hardly any Pokémon more iconic than the original 151, and many still hold the game in high regard today.

Approachable to young gamers at the time, bugs and glitches that are still talked about today, and still managing to tell compelling environmental stories in the way of Lavender Town, Pokémon Red & Pokémon Green will always and forever be one of the best entries in the franchise.

Pokémon X & Y (2013)

The First 3D Mainline Pokémon Game Introduced New Mechanics & Franchise Staples

Pokemon-X-Y-cover-art-featuring-the-staple-legendaries-of-both-games

The first fully 3D mainline Pokémon title, Gen 6’s X & Y introduced a number of new mechanics, gimmicks, and story beats that are still beloved by modern Pokémon fans a decade later. This batch of mainline games were the first to introduce full character customization, and also included the Mega Evolution mechanic.

While its storytelling isn’t as strong as other mainline titles, X & Y still had a umber of compelling lore implications for the series, tying its main trilogy back to Norse Mythology. Plus, plenty of diehard Pokémon fans interested in the franchise’s greater lore are still waiting to learn more about the mysterious Zygarde.

Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness (2005)

The Heavily Underrated Sequel To Pokémon Colosseum Deserves More Love as One Of the Franchise’s Best Spin-Offs

Pokemon-XD-Gale-of-Darkness-cover-art-featuring-the-shadowy-version-of-Lugia

The heavily underrated sequel to Pokémon Colosseum is an absolute must-play to any Pokémon fan that has access to a GameCube system. Despite the tragedy that the game is doomed to become more obscure than it already is with the passage of time, Gale of Darkness was a unique entry in the franchise and a bold departure to the standard approach to Pokémon‘s formula. Mechanically, the game operates in a similar fashion to other mainlines titles, but allows the player to find wild Pokémon in specific locations, which is a huge improvement on Colosseum‘s gameplay.

Taking place five years after the events of Colosseum, Gale of Darkness opens with the Orre Region’s criminal organization, Cipher, after creating “Shadow Lugia”, a sinister Pokémon immune to purification that’s meant to wreak havoc on the region. You, the player, embark on a journey with your trusty Eevee at your side to purify different Shadow Pokémon around the region and get to the bottom of the Cipher organization’s schemes.

Pokémon Snap (1999)

The original Pokémon Snap Gave Players a Low-Stakes, Adorable Experience With Their Favorite Pokémon

Pokemon-Snap-cover-art-featuring-film-reel-with-Pikachu-Squirtle-Charmander-and-Psyduck

Pokémon Snap holds a fond place in many Pokémon fans’ hearts thanks to its laid back gameplay and adorable snapshot into the normal activities of Pokémon out in the wild. With a completely different gameplay loop compared to what’s in the mainline titles, Pokémon Snap just focuses on the player exploring the world and trying to get the best possible photograph of whatever Pokémon they can stumble across.

That’s not to say it’s that simple, though, as there are specific Pokémon evolutions and encounters that players can only find after triggering specific, timed events in the world as they explore.

Pokémon Emerald (2003)

Gen 3 Introduced a Number of Fan-Favorite Pokémon

Pokemon-Emerald-cover-art-featuring-Rayquaza

The capstone of Gen 3, Pokémon Emerald ties together what makes Ruby & Sapphire so iconic and builds on specific mechanics to improve the overall gameplay. In addition to shaking up the resolution of the game’s main story by showing off the omnipotent Rayquaza, the game also allows players to catch Ruby & Sapphire‘s respective exclusives with no need for trading with friends.

There were also massive redesigns to many of the locations players can access across the Hoenn regions that improves exploration and makes the world feel more alive. As far as battling goes, Emerald built on the double battle mechanic, allowing players the opportunity to re-challenge gym leaders and participate in double battles against them. Gen 3 was a huge turning point in the franchise by introducing massive changes that would effect all of the mainline titles going forward.

Pokémon HeartGold & SoulSilver (2009)

Gen 2’s Remakes Rival Newer Games In Content & Quality

Pokemon-HeartGold-SoulSilver-Cover-art

Pokémon HeartGold & SoulSilver were gorgeous reimaginings of Gen 2’s Gold & Silver titles, and combined some elements from Pokémon Crystal as well. Using many of the new core features introduced in Gen 4 and adding beautiful new scenery to iconic locations, HeartGold & SoulSilver stood out as being the first batch of mainline remakes to add just as much as they restored.

Additionally, HeartGold & SoulSilver added the adorably fun overworld mechanic of having whatever Pokémon in the player’s first slot follow them around. This was paired alongside the admittedly gimmicky pedometer called the Pokéwalker that was sold alongside the games to track player’s real-world steps and earn “watts” tht could be exchanged for in-game rewards, and the ability to catch Pokémon.

Pokémon Sun & Moon (2016)

Despite Some Spotty Mechanical Adds, Gen 7 Explored a Deeper Narrative That Hit Close To Home For Many Players

Pokemon-Sun-Moon-cover-art

While Gen 7 sometimes gets a bad rep from disgruntled Pokémon fans, Sun & Moon had a stellar story that dove into surprising depth for a mainline Pokémon game. With Lusamine being a more than compelling villain, especially factoring in the storylines following her two children that become a rival and companion to the player, Sun & Moon has more than enough to keep players entertained, and earns it a high spot amid other titles in the franchise.

While the games does have its misses mechanically, its still incredibly fun, and also shook up the traditional Gym Leader dynamic found in past Pokémon games.

Pokémon Black & White (2010)

Gen 5 Bookends the End Of an Era For the Franchise With One Of Pokémon’s Best Stories

Pokemon-Black-White-official-cover-art-featuring-the-two-main-legendaries-from-each-game

Pokémon Black & White was the final 2D mainline entry in the franchise, and ended that era of Pokémon on an incredible note. While Gen 5 does suffer from a few questionable mechanics that never permanently carried over to other games, it did bring some of the liveliest sprite’s in the franchise’s history, and hands down has the most compelling story in a mainlines Pokémon game.

The game’s villains were also compelling, with the dynamic between N and Ghetsis remaining iconic now, with many players voicing their desire to see more complex antagonists like N in the future. From its character and Pokémon designs, to the infectiously catchy OST, Pokémon Black & White will always be beloved entries in the series.

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky (2009)

The Mystery Dungeon Series Is Known For Tear-Jerking Stories, & Explorers of Sky Delivered

Pokemon-Mystery-Dungeon-Explorers-of-Sky-cover-art

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon is a unique take on the Pokémon franchise that sees players being transported to a world inhabited only by Pokémon as a Pokémon, and going on dungeon crawling adventures as members of a guild trying to discover what caused them to become a Pokémon in the first place. While the gameplay is fun, the storyline of Explorers of Sky is absolutely iconic, and an absolute tear-jerker.

Despite being a spin-off title, Explorers of Sky has some of the best storytelling in the entirety of the franchise, with many fans wishing to see the spin-off series make a comeback after a handful of lackluster entries since Explorers of Sky dropped.

Pokémon Platinum (2006)

The Final Mainline Entry of Gen 4 Gave Pokémon Fans Everything They Want Out of the Franchise

Pokemon-Platinum-cover-art-featuring-Giratina

Pokémon Platinum is hands-down the best Pokémon game. Not only is Gen 4 well-regarded for adding many of the series most iconic Pokémon, including Giratina and Arceus – the literal God of Pokémon – Platinum also introduced a variety of upgrades from Diamond & Pearl that truly made it stand out.

Of these, some of the best additions included the game running faster – Diamond & Pearl chug along far more than players might remember – story improvements, with many of the core themes surrounding creation and time, culminating in Platinum‘s box-art showcase Pokémon, Giratina, representing anti-matter and chaos. Platinum also marks the return of the beloved Battle Frontier, and much like Emerald, allows for a broader Pokédex that’s easier for players to complete.

Sorry Larian Studios – Dark Urge & Gortash Belong Together, and We Have Proof https://attackofthefanboy.com/gaming/baldurs-gate-3-larian-studios-dark-urge-gortash-belong-together/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/gaming/baldurs-gate-3-larian-studios-dark-urge-gortash-belong-together/#respond Thu, 18 Jul 2024 20:24:13 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=987251 The award-winning Baldur’s Gate 3 has become an instant classic, and made it to the top of many players’ best of 2023 list – including myself. When the game launched, I found myself instantly enthralled by the “Dark Urge” character origin, and in my first playthrough, dived into learning as much as I could about my – as Astarion would put it – “precious little Bhaal Babe.”

While Act 1 was relatively tame in giving away information about the Dark Urge’s backstory, Act 2 hits like a truck – and as I continued playing noticed something undeniable: the Dark Urge and Enver Gortash absolutely had “something” going on before the events of the main game.

I’m not the only person picking up on the tension between the Dead Three’s chosen either, but Larian Studios is determined to try and run away from the possibility of “Durgetash” being made canon.

Larian Studio’s Continuous Denial Of Durgetash Is Funny, But Continues To Stoke the Flames

The-Dark-Urge-Baldurs-Gate-3

Plenty of fans are excited for the release of Patch 7. Larian recently dropped the patch notes on their social platforms, and it introduces a number of incredible changes, bug fixes, and the official modding toolkit. Also featured on Community Update #28, though, is this excerpt:

Clearly, Larian Studios has heard pleas from the desperate Durgetash community for any crumbs of content or making the doomed ship canon, but the studio has decided to instead choose violence. This isn’t the first time the studio has made jabs at fans of the ship either, as they regularly engage with fans of the villainous Lord Enver Gortash on Twitter/X.

Larian-studios-poking-fun-at-Durgetash-shippers-on-Twitter

These aren’t the only examples, of course, but Larian does seem to love the banter. The bigger question on this issue, though, is why they’re so dedicated to shooting down the hopes of Durgetash fans when there are clearly nods to the pair having some kind of “more-than-enemies-less-than-friends” dynamic before the Dark Urge got tadpoled.

Analyzing the Relationship Between Gortash & the Dark Urge: Partners In World Domination, Or Something More?

Collage-style-image-of-Gortash-and-Dark-Urge

Analyzing what once was between Enver Gortash and Dark Urge is tricky at best, partially due to the fact that many of the references to the pair’s relationship can only be found in books, letters, and journals scattered throughout the game that are incredibly easy to miss for a player barreling through the main story. Regardless, observant Durgetash fans have done their research and have scoured every corner of the Sword Coast to find evidence that these two used to be involved with one another.

Posted by u/AgitatedMango9695 on Reddit, the following letter can be found in game – including a note added by Balthazar at the end making a jab at Dark Urge – of Bhaal’s chosen lamenting about being unable to ignore Gortash’s inherent genius.

Journal-Entry-from-Dark-Urge-Discussing-Their-Feelings-For-Gortash
Screenshots Taken By u/AgitatedMango9695

Called a “Prayer of Forgiveness” in-game, this is the first concrete piece of evidence that the two had a much deeper relationship other than uniting the chosen of the Dead Three to take over Faerûn. Once the player makes it to Act 3, there are even more hints scattered throughout alluding to something going on – including a unique piece of Gortash dialogue when he’s speaking to Orin in an early cutscene, giving a shocked, “They live?” after hearing that the Dark Urge is making their way to the city.

When the Dark Urge finally makes it to Wyrm’s Crossing and goes to speak to Gortash during the coronation ceremony, he seems genuinely elated to see them – something that he does not do for a regular Tav. His body language in the cutscenes that follow are notably different, darting his eyes away and even smiling. If you have Karlach in your party, he even says this, “To think you and Karlach travelled together all this time, and she hadn’t the faintest you were one of my nearest and dearest.” and with specific dialogue choices will later add, “You and I always knew we could only stand against the world united.”

Then, when Orin begins invading the player’s camp, she makes a pointed statement directed at the player that they have always been easily influenced by the “Lordling”.

Orin-the-Red-and-Gortash-in-a-screenshot-from-Baldurs-Gate-3
Image: Larian Studios

This isn’t what ultimately sold me on the two having involvement, believe it or not. What really sealed the deal for me as a player was learning about the heist on Mephistopheles vault, and what Gortash says to the player as they enter the The Iron Throne to rescue Ulder Ravengard, and their final conversation in a “good” aligned run if the player chooses to betray him. Surprisingly, much of this evidence was introduced in Patch 6 – one of the very few breadcrumbs that Larian has tossed to players to fuel speculation.

If the player chooses to betray Gortash and rescue Duke Ravengard from The Iron Throne, upon entering Gortash’s chambers in Wyrm’s Crossing, he will reprimand the Dark Urge for going against him, saying that the two of them could have been partners in crime had they chosen differently. To this, the player is presented with a series of dialogue options with one of them standing out, stating, “For what it’s worth, I think I always liked you, too. But this is how it must be.” Selecting this option, the player is hit with this narrative piece of pining: “There is hesitation in his eye for one moment. A passing thought of all times spent together you’ll never remember.” Gortash quickly interjects with, “Is that what you–” before being dramatically cut off by the rumbling of the Elder Brain.

While this is an overt bit of fanservice being thrown at Durgetash fans, this isn’t the only special dialogue shippers have decided to run with. When the player begins their descent into The Irone Throne, Gortash will send a clear message for them to stop what they’re doing or threaten to kill everyone imprisoned inside. While not the most concrete, the Dark Urge does get an interesting unique response to this, saying that Gortash is theirs to take from. Any fan of doomed or toxic ships can read between the lines with this one, even if it may seem like a stretch at a glance.

Collage-style-Image-featuring-unique-dialogue-between-Gortash-and-Dark-Urge

One of the most interesting pieces of evidence that players can find about the pair’s past is the plot to raid Mephistopheles Vault. While this can, of course, be read as nothing more than two evil individuals plotting to unite for a common goal, it also opens the gates for a great deal of analysis and implication regarding just how much Gortash and the Dark Urge have relied on one another in the past. It also confirms that the two were well acquainted before the “Absolute” plot, and that despite their patron Gods being fierce rivals, moving past that in order to truly care for each other.

References to the raid can be found by speaking with Helsik in the Devil’s Fee while playing Dark Urge before traveling to the House of Hope in Act 3. Helsik will recognize the Dark Urge right away, but, as per usual, the Dark Urge has amnesia and can’t remember anything about interacting with Helsik in the past. She’s willing to enlighten you on a bit of your history, telling the player that she had opened a portal for the Dark Urge and Lord Gortash to enter the Hells. She doesn’t provide much else aside from this, but players can also find a note written by a spy hired by Orin, and one written by Gortash corroborating this information.

While a reach, the pair must have had a great deal of respect and trust for one another in order to band together to attempt to rob Mephistopheles – the most powerful Archdevil next to Asmodeus. Gortash and his favorite assassin have undeniable history, and while many players could understandably read these interactions as being the result of a deep-rooted trust, it’s impossible to look at this evidence without also seeing clear nods to doomed, romantic pining.

Enver-Gortash-using-the-Nether-Stone-in-Baldurs-Gate-3
Image: Larian Studios

Our read on these interactions is that it’s almost undeniable that the feelings Gortash and the Dark Urge have for one another are anything but platonic. Even if it’s toxic, Archduke Enver Gortash is pining for the Dark Urge, and it’s time for Larian to stop avoiding the writing on the wall. Even if we can never ultimately save Gortash if we decide to side with him in Act 3, we should at least have one last chance for an angst-filled goodbye between the two – and maybe that kiss that Larian keeps insisting he’s too busy for.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is available on PC (Windows & macOS), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.

All of this is, obviously, ripe for a number of opportunities in the TTRPG space, something that will finally become a reality.

Brotherwise games, the group behind Call To Adventure, is hard at work on designing an extensive TTRPG set in Roshar.

Details About the Upcoming Stormlight Archives Tabletop RPG

Artwork by Randy Vargas

On Brotherwise Games’ official website, they’ve provided a few key highlights for what fans can expect from the upcoming TTRPG, including an original system that will feel familiar for most players, a variety of build paths from Scholar to Surgebinder, and that the team aims to make the Stormlight TTRPG as inclusive as possible, so that even those unfamiliar with Sanderson’s world can dive right in.

The game has also been teased to have a special mechanic using the classic d20 called a “plot die” – a special roll that only occurs for risky and dramatic plays to enhance storytelling and roleplay opportunities at the table. When the game was originally announced in 2022, Brandon Sanderson offered a number of other details, including how the game’s magic system will be skill-based, and that players would potentially have the ability to join one of Cosmere’s knightly factions.

Brotherwise Games has also announced a 2-4 player deck-building card game themed after Sanderson’s Mistborn series, and a standalone card game called Shards of Creation that is ased on “the godlike beings behind Sanderson’s Cosmere”.

The Stormlight TTRPG is going to be a crowdfunding effort hosted on Kickstarter, and will officially launch on August 6, 2024.

Wyll Ravengard Is One Of Baldur’s Gate 3’s Best Characters That Too Many Miss Out On https://attackofthefanboy.com/gaming/baldurs-gate-3-game-wyll-ravengard-best-character/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/gaming/baldurs-gate-3-game-wyll-ravengard-best-character/#respond Tue, 09 Jul 2024 20:48:06 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=986891 The award-winning Baldur’s Gate 3 has made huge waves in the gaming industry for just about anything fans could imagine. It’s approach to adapting the Dungeons & Dragons 5e system, character writing, and narrative are all superb, but there’s one crucial thing that too many fans are missing out on – Wyll Ravengard.

While every companion featured in Baldur’s Gate 3 has their fans, Wyll is often overlooked in fandom discussions, and while many have made an effort to push for his inclusion in many corners of the internet, he’s still grossly underrated, and we’re here to tell you why you need to give the Blade of Frontiers more love.

Wyll Embodies the Classic Folk Hero Archetype With a Tragic Twist

Wyll-Ravengard-smiling-at-the-player-character-in-the-Tiefling-camp-during-Act-1-of-BG3
Larian Studios

When Wyll is first introduced in the first act when the player stumbles across the goblin ambush at the Grove, he receives a perfectly executed introductory cutscene that tells the player exactly what he’s all about from the get-go: flashy heroics, and classic do-gooding. Plus, regardless of his title as the ‘Blade of Frontiers’, Wyll is a total sweetheart, and remains extremely humble despite how many of the tieflings faun over him and his abilities. When players get officially introduced to him as he assists in training the tiefling children, he’s stuck in a situation much like everyone else in your party: he was infected with a Mind Flayer parasite.

It’s apparent rather quickly that Wyll isn’t all he appears to be, since he reluctantly tells the player he managed to get infected while pursuing a devil in Avernus – not the typical job the classic storybook hero type like Wyll would usually be up to. Additionally, his stone eye suspiciously looks like a Sending Stone – a magic item in Dungeons & Dragons that allows for long-distance communication. Regardless, he’s happy to join you on your journey as long as you promise him you’ll do something to aid the tieflings in finding safe passage to Baldur’s Gate, and help him kill the devil he’s been tracking. This opens up his personal quest line: The Blade of Frontiers.

Wyll-Ravengard-trying-to-give-Umi-advice-in-Baldurs-Gate-3
Larian Studios

As players grow closer to Wyll, his backstory begins to unravel. He was the one and only son to the very famous Duke Ulder Ravengard from Baldur’s Gate, and while he was raised among the city’s other noble families, Wyll always has always possessed a rebellious streak, and would run off spending time with the kids outside his socioeconomic circle, and training with his father. From the time Wyll was very young, the expectation was placed on him that he should live up to what his father wanted for him: take Ulder’s position in the Flaming Fist, succeed him in becoming the next Duke Ravengard, and continue his legacy as a champion of the city.

Wyll’s world fell apart, though, when he was only seventeen-years-old. Watching his father be named Grand Duke at such a young age and seeing him off to Elturel to assist in settling on of the many political disputes at the time, Wyll began to hear haunting whispers in the night that demanded he traverse alone to Dusthawk Hall. There, Wyll swears that he saw Dragon Cultists attempting to summon the vicious, devastatingly powerful being Tiamat to destroy the city. Young, desperate, and powerless to stop the onslaught on his own – Wyll was suddenly approached by a cambion named Mizora, who offered him the power to save the city he adored so much. His city, his father’s city – the place his family vowed to protect.

Wyll made the pact, trading his soul for the power to save the city. Much to his dismay, when his father returned from Elturel, he didn’t see Wyll’s choice as a noble sacrifice. Instead, his father was heartbroken and angry, casting Wyll out of his home, and the city he traded his soul to protect.

Wyll Doesn’t Need You To Fix Him – He Just Needs You In His Corner

Wyll-Ravengard-smiling-with-blood-on-his-face-in-BG3
Larian Studios

Much like the other companions featured in Baldur’s Gate 3, Wyll is a victim of circumstance. He’s a victim – a young man that was taken advantage of and easily manipulated by doing what, at the time, he truly believed was an act of heroism to protect the place that raised him. That said, when looking at Wyll compared to some of your other companions – especially those that you meet extremely early on, Wyll doesn’t have many – if any – ulterior motives in joining you. He didn’t know that the “devil” he was sent after, Karlach, was actually a tiefling forced into Zariel’s service, and he’s well aware of how evil and calculating Mizora is.

Plus, despite the fact he’s clearly being constantly threatened by his Warlock patron and worried sick for the safety of his father in spite of their rocky relationship, he never makes you feel responsible for making him better. From the very first moment the party becomes aware that Wyll’s patron is a cambion working for Zariel, he swears to protect them, and that he’s the only one responsible for dealing with Mizora’s wrath. He’s even more than willing to selflessly give up a second chance at life in Baldur’s Gate to follow Karlach back into Avernus to fight alongside her so she can continue to live and search for a cure to her infernal engine troubles. Wyll, despite the reputation Warlocks often have, truly possesses a heart of gold. While everyone has their character flaws, it’s so effortless to root for Wyll and want to do what’s best for him while navigating his personal quest line, and we desperately wish that the game had more of him for players to experience.

Wyll Ravengard proves that despite everything that happens to you, if you carry your head up high and keep moving forward, you can be a hero.

This ‘Hades’ Mod Adds ‘League of Legends’ Spirit Blossom Skins To the Popular Roguelike https://attackofthefanboy.com/news/hades-game-fan-mod-league-of-legends-spirit-blossom-skins/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/news/hades-game-fan-mod-league-of-legends-spirit-blossom-skins/#respond Tue, 09 Jul 2024 19:22:00 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=986884 Who would have thought that MOBAs and roguelikes could go together so well? Hades and League of Legends are both immensely popular games with huge communities backing them, and while their genres are completely different, that doesn’t stop fans from loving both of these properties all the same.

A new fan project from a group of devoted fans on X are hard at work to bring these two properties together in one of the most inventive projects we’ve ever seen.

New Mod Will Allow Players To Run Into Their Favorite Spirit Blossom Champs In Hades

@sorrowtalks on X

As described by jjolee (@sorrowtalks), the mod project will have players take control of Spirit Blossom Sett as he pursues Aphelios. The 2D art, courtesy of jjolee themselves, is absolutely stunning and perfectly captures the signature style that Hades is known so well for.

Included in the credits for the mod project is @mooncakephel, who’s handling the 3D modding; @hongdous, who’s managing coding on the project; and @aphelionaphelia, who will be writing dialogue for the project. Anyone interested in keeping up with the mod as it develops can follow @hades_sett on X for any and all upcoming information about the project.

If you haven’t tried out either game and are interested in getting familiar with the mechanics or lore before diving into this promising fan project, League of Legends is available for Windows and Mac, and Hades is available on PC (Windows & macOS), Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and iOS.

The Best Anime & Manga For Elden Ring Fans https://attackofthefanboy.com/anime/best-anime-manga-elden-ring-erdtree-fans/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/anime/best-anime-manga-elden-ring-erdtree-fans/#respond Tue, 25 Jun 2024 01:59:34 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=985852 With the highly-anticipated Elden Ring DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree, finally in the hands of players, the game has been getting talked about more than ever before. Elden Ring is a souls-like dark fantasy game where players take on the role of the Tarnished, an individual called to create a new “Elden Lord”, adventuring through the Lands Between.

For fans of the series that are already knee-deep in the DLC, or for those who haven’t quite had the time to dive in just yet, there’s no better time to build on hype surrounding the Shadow of Erdtree release by watching and reading anime and manga that situate themselves in the dark fantasy genre.

Hellsing

Hellsing-Ultimate-official-artwork-of-a-man-in-a-large-red-coat-holding-a-gun

While Hellsing doesn’t take place in a medieval fantasy setting, it does have all the grime and gore that fans of Elden Ring‘s brutal battles can’t get enough of. Hellsing follows an elusive organization that investigates a variety of supernatural threats. After being called in to look into a vampire terrorizing the village of Cheddar and turning the townsfolk into ghouls. The organization dispatches their most valuable member to look into the threat: a vampire called Alucard.

Hellsing is such a unique spin on dark fantasy in the way that it combines post-modern politics and social commentary in with a grisly, bloody story. Plus, for anime fans that love delving deep into franchises they love, Hellsing is an early example of a series that received the “Brotherhood” treatment. The original Hellsing anime only follows the manga up to a certain point before diverting slightly, while Hellsing Ultimate follows the manga’s story much more closely.

Bastard!! -Heavy Metal, Dark Fantasy-

Bastard-official-artwork-of-Dark-Schneider-in-the-2022-anime-adaptation

Action-packed with just the right amount of self-awareness to be fun and occasionally campy, 2022’s Bastard!!, based on the original manga by Kazushi Hagiwara and produced by Liden Films, embraces every eccentricity the series has to offer.

After an apocalyptic event caused by a demon named Anthrasax who was subsequently slain by the Dragon Knight, Earth is sent spiraling into a dark age. In the present day, a kingdom known as Metallicana is invaded by the “Dark Rebel Army”, who aim to bring the demon back to life. These events lead the the kingdom’s high priest requesting that his daughter reawaken Dark Schnieder, the leader of the Dark Rebels, who reincarnates in a young man named Lucien. While the story can be campy, with all the flashy designs and humor that comes from a series that originally released in the late 80s, it’s infectiously fun.

Dororo

A-screencap-from-Dororo-2019-of-Dororo-and-Hyakkimaru-traveling-together

Based on Osamu Tezuka’s manga of the same name, 2019’s adaptation of Dororo by Tezuka Productions and MAPPA is a haunting blend of historical fiction and dark fantasy. The story follows Hyakkimaru, who, when he was born, had his organs and limbs sacrificed to twelve demon gods by a feudal lord in exchange for his people’s prosperity. He’s later adopted by a doctor named Jukai, who gives him his name and raises him as his own.

As Hyakkimaru becomes a teen, he is attacked by demons, but develops the idea to see their silhouettes and fights back. He reigns victorious, and regains the ability to feel pain. His adoptive father sends him on a journey to regain his body, and on his way meets a young child named Dororo. The two begin traveling together, learning many of the harsh realities of the world around them, and more importantly: what it means to be a human being.

Claymore

Official-artwork-from-the-Claymore-manga-of-the-lead-character-wielding-her-titular-blade

Perhaps one of the most iconic high fantasy manga ever written, Claymore, created by Norihiro Yagi, takes place in a traditional medieval setting where humanity is being ravaged by beings called “Yoma”, shape-shifters that feed on humans. A group known only as “The Organization” maufactures Yoma-hybrids to fight back against this threat. Referred to as “Claymores” or “Silver-Eyed Witches” by the public, this elite force of female warriors are powered by demonic energy that gives them superhuman strength, similar to that of the Yoma.

Claymore‘s world is incredibly vast, and Norihiro’s artstyle is nothing short of breathtaking. The illustrations of the Yoma seems to loom off the page, and the fight sequences between the Claymores and their otherworldy prey are heartstoppingly intense. For fans of Elden Ring’s unique world and visually impressive monsters, Claymore is an instant favorite that diehard fans of the games shouldn’t go overlooking.

Berserk

Official-Berserk-artwork-of-Griffith-and-a-demonic-skeletal-warrior-standing-behind-him

While it may seem like the obvious choice, for the uninitiated, Berserk is hands-down the best manga that fans of Elden Ring should be reading. In addition to the games constant nods and references to Miura’s legendary dark fantasy manga, Berserk is nothing short of a horrifying, gorgeous adventure story.

The manga follows Guts, a swordsman who, in the beginning, is a lone wolf; and Griffith, the leader of a band of mercenaries called the Band of the Hawk. The two eventually bond – but the story doesn’t end happily with the pair becoming some sort of adventuring party. Quite the contrary, with Griffith later betraying Guts and his crew, sacrificing them to a powerful demonic being. After this cataclysmic event, Guts journeys onward to seek revenge on Griffith. While there’s plenty of details being left out of such a simplified synopsis, Berserk is a legendary fantasy franchise, and while the series struggles to be adapted into an animated medium, it still stands as one of the most influential pieces of dark fantasy fiction to ever be released.

Top 10 Best Cool Math Games https://attackofthefanboy.com/games/top-best-cool-math-games/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/games/top-best-cool-math-games/#respond Tue, 19 Dec 2023 17:45:26 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=975119 Coolmath Games is a portal that offers surprisingly good, free-to-play educational games. These games involve no violence. They focus on logic, enabling you to learn without even realizing it.

The reason behind Coolmath Games being a popular portal is in the quality of its browser games. They manage to be entertaining and kid friendly while often providing good challenges and managing to teach in a fun way.

The 10 Best CoolMath Games

Run 3

Run-3
Image: Attack of the Fanboy

Run 3 is an intriguing platformer where gravity shifts as you approach a wall. When you hold a key to the left or right, you are drawn to that wall and it becomes your floor. It’s a very fun gimmick for an Endless Runner platformer that would otherwise be quite dull. That said, I spend a while seeing how far I could get and the challenges keeps the game interesting and fresh for a long time.

Chess

Chess
Image: Attack of the Fanboy

What more can I say? Chess is always a good choice. You can play chess with friends or against a random opponent. If you just want a quick way to play chess on a browser, this one works pretty well. It’s probably why it’s one of the most popular Coolmath games. Coolmath’s Chess also has skins that radically change the way the game looks. For instance, you can play on a simple 2D board or on a very fancy 3D board with beautiful chess pieces and an expensive looking wood board.

Clicker Heroes

This typical idle game promises many exciting moments when you finally accumulate enough gold to upgrade your hero or hire an assistant, allowing the gold to accumulate on its own. It’s as deep as any other idle game, but it might have just enough to keep a kid entertained for hours.

Unblocked

Unblocked
Image: Attack of the Fanboy

This puzzle game has a straightforward concept, which is what makes it good. The board has a bunch of blocks and you have to make a clear path for the red block to go through the hole on the side of the board. The puzzles start pretty easy and get increasingly harder. The less moves you make, the more points you are awarded. It’s one of those simple concepts that can become over complicated and challenging, making it a great for those who want to improve their problem-solving skills.

Moto X3M

Moto-X3M
Image: Attack of the Fanboy

While a 2D physics-based motorcycle game may not be innovative, it doesn’t make Moto X3M any less enjoyable. The game has many different levels with unique challenges and obstacles, keeping it fresh and fun. There is a surprising amount of challenge variation, which I very much appreciate.

Dark Tomb

Dark-Tomb
Image: Attack of the Fanboy

This exploration game, which is very well designed, gives off the vibe of an old NES game. You have a jump button, an action button to interact with items and the environment, and a lamp that helps with the sense of immersion in exploring a dark tomb. The game has a decent retro sound design, fun puzzles, and pretty good pixel art that made me pleasantly surprised to have found it on Coolmath.

There Is No Game

This is the most unconventional browser game I’ve ever played. It’s one of those experiences that make you smile while you realize how creative, fun, and interesting the game is. I very much appreciate there’s no game. I can’t talk much about it without spoiling the experience, but the game has a narrator who tries to convince you that there is no game. Now you have to click on the screen, think outside the box, and solve these very unusual puzzles that are presented to you by There Is No Game.

MetroCubeVania

MetroCubeVania
Image: Attack of the Fanboy

A surprisingly good browser-based Metroidvania game with straightforward controls. You use the arrows to move and C to jump. Initially, the cube can only jump, but you obtain power-ups like a double jump and others that assist in navigating the stage to gather the medals needed to complete the game. The graphics are not great, but the game can be quite challenging and fun at times.

The Sun for the Vampire 3

The-Sun-for-the-Vampire-3
Image: Attack of the Fanboy

This is a straightforward puzzle platformer. While there’s nothing particularly unique about this game, its ease of play and functionality are sufficient to keep children engaged and focused. Also, since it’s a puzzle game, it’s good for kids to practice logical thinking.

Blightborne

This is a remarkably intricate, refined platformer. It offers numerous items, abilities, and paths for exploration. You have to run, jump, and fight the evil lurking in the dungeons in order to save your village. This platforming in this game feels good, the art is also surprisingly decent, and the game overall just feels ambitious when compared to other platformers that you can find on Coolmath.

14 Best Fortnite Icon Skins, Ranked https://attackofthefanboy.com/games/best-fortnite-icon-skins-ranked/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/games/best-fortnite-icon-skins-ranked/#respond Wed, 22 Nov 2023 18:46:17 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=967295 Some of the best Fortnite Icon skins are still seen today because of how beloved they are. You can probably guess some of them, but I can guarantee you’ve seen many. Check out the list below for the best Fortnite Icon skins ranked from the least to the best.

Top Fortnite Icon Skins, ranked

14 – Astro Jack

Image: Epic Games

Astro Jack is a humanoid astronaut with a glowing blue head and a purple suit. He has a variety of cosmetic items that can be purchased with V-Bucks, including a back bling, pickaxe, and glider. It was released on April 22, 2020. This is just Travis Scott in a specific skin that’s based on his full cosmetic. We’re counting this as its own because players tend to treat the Astroworld (aka “Astro Jack”) skin and Travis Scott as two separate skins.

I think this is one of the better skins because of the way the helmet and frown face work. It’s unique, and I’ve definitely never seen anything close to it.

13 – Patrick Mahomes

fortnite-patrick-mahomes-outfit-with-other-styles
Image: Epic Games

The skin is based on Patrick Mahomes, the quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs of the National Football League (NFL), and it was released on August 25, 2022. You’ve got three styles: one that looks casual with the black arm sleeve, the higher tier with a robotic arm, and the armor-clad arm with a helmet that reminds me of a Trojan or Gladiator.

This skin is on the list because there are a lot of football fans who like to play Fortnite. Patrick Mahomes is a popular sports player, and I can see why they added this skin. This Fortnite skin does have the issue where the series is making Icons out of people who have almost no connection to the game. I can see why a lot of people don’t like the idea of it.

12 – SypherPK

fortnite-sypherpk-outfit-and-styles
Image: Epic Games

The skin is based on SypherPK’s signature look. SypherPK, whose real name is Ali Hassan, is a popular Fortnite content creator and streamer known for his informative and entertaining gameplay videos. It was released on September 23, 2022. I remember this skin coming out and thinking that while it was super cool, it was pretty late. SypherPK is known as the “Trap King” and is the most loyal to Fortnite out of anyone on this list. He deserved a skin right after Ninja got one, to be honest.

I like the purple variant because it looks way cooler and reminds me of Fortnitemares. Although I have seen many people stick to the shirtless version instead.

11 – Loserfruit

fortnite-loserfruit-with-arms-on-sides
Image: Epic Games

Released on June 22, 2020, the Loserfruit skin is a popular Icon Series skin in Fortnite. The skin is based on the Australian Twitch streamer and YouTuber of the same name. Loserfruit, also known as Kathleen Belsten, is a popular content creator and streamer, and her skin was one of the first in the Icon series. Loserfruit was a popular Fortnite creator at the time and established the idea that to be an Icon, you had to be associated with Fortnite.

That quickly died off, but we can look to Loserfruit as the glory days. I personally love it because of the rainbow colors on the sleeves.

10 – TheGrefg

thegrefg-fortnite-icon-series-with-black-balls-and-shirtless
Image: Epic Games

Released on January 17, 2021, the TheGrefg skin is a popular Icon Series skin in Fortnite. TheGrefg, a popular Spanish YouTuber and Twitch streamer, collaborated with Fortnite to create his own Icon Series skin. He was supposed to get his skin far earlier. I remember writing about this back when I was a Fortnite Writer. It had been teased a year before, but he kept getting passed up.

I love the skin — it looks like a wrestler, and I remember that many thought the black balls were going to be Dragon Balls since TheGrefg loves Dragon Ball Z.

9 – LeBron James

lebraon-james-with-suit-basketball-outfit-fortnite
Image: Epic Games

Released on July 15, 2021, The LeBron James Fortnite Icon skin was available in three styles: a default style, a Taco Tuesday style, and a black hoodie suit. The default style features a white jersey with James’ number 6 on the front and the word “James” on the back. The jersey black hoodie suit is also adorned with gold wolves on the shoulders and a king’s crown on LeBron’s head. The Taco Tuesday style features a teal shirt with a taco graphic on the front.

I could see why Epic Games capitalized on this because it was when the new Looney Tunes movie came out. What was disappointing to me was that this was a big departure from what Icon skins were. They were supposed to just be for those who helped the game or were involved in it. LeBron has almost nothing to do with Fortnite, and it showed that Icon skins were basically something companies could buy into.

8 – Ariana Grande

fortnite-ariana-grande-item-shop-crystal-and-white-hair
Image: Epic Games

Released on August 5, 2021, the Ariana Grande skin is a popular Icon Series skin in Fortnite. The skin is based on the American singer and actress of the same name, and features a variety of cosmetics, including a skin, back bling, pickaxe, and emote.

I love the Ariana Grande Skin, as well as the event that happened alongside it. In my mind, her concert was the second- or third-best event in the game. The skin looks graceful, regardless of which one you’re wearing. I am a huge fan of concert tours in Fortnite.

7 – LazarBeam

fortnite-lazarbeam-outfit-and-items
Image: Epic Games

Released on March 5, 2021, the LazarBeam skin is a popular Icon Series skin in Fortnite. The skin is based on the Australian YouTuber and gamer of the same name, and features a variety of cosmetics, including a skin, back bling, pickaxe, and emote.

Lazarbeam is an okay streamer to watch, in my opinion, but his skin was a sweaty one. I think it’s because it looked so simple, and sweats tend to like to look like everyone else. That way, when they beat you, it makes you rage more.

6 – Lachlan

Image: Epic Games

Released on November 13, 2020, the Lachlan skin is a popular Icon Series skin in Fortnite. The skin is based on the Australian YouTuber and gamer of the same name, and features a variety of cosmetics, including a skin, back bling, pickaxe, and emote.

Lachlan was not supposed to come out when it did. TheGrefg was supposed to come out because it was one of the three first Icon Skins teased. However, it seems like Lachlan was able to move his way in, and his skin is pretty cool. I remember Lachlan even bought a new Twitch interface for his gameplay when he revealed the skin.

5 – Bugha

bugha-lategame-victory-cup-fortnite
Image: Epic Games

Released on July 21, 2021, the Bugha skin is a popular Icon Series skin in Fortnite. The skin is based on the American esports player and Fortnite World Cup champion of the same name, and features a variety of cosmetics, including a skin, back bling, pickaxe, and emote.

Bugha is a big name in Fortnite because he won — and then the COVID pandemic happened. This meant that there was no tournament for the next year, leaving Bugha as a champion for much longer than intended. I like the story of Bugha, and his skin is a rare one to see, but it’s got a lot of history on it.

4 – Travis Scott

travis-scott-next-to-planet-Fortnite
Image: Epic Games

First released on April 22, 2020, the Travis Scott skin is one of the most popular Icon Series skins in Fortnite. The skin is based on the American rapper and singer of the same name and features the rapper without a shirt on, showcasing his ripped physique.

The Travis Scott skin is hard, there’s no denying that. He looks like a gangster and almost mimics 50 Cent’s iconic shredded body. I’ve always thought this skin looked cool, and now it’s a way to show how long you’ve been in the game.

3 – MrBeast

Image: Epic Games

Released on December 15, 2022, MrBeast’s skin is one of the most basic yet easily recognizable in the Icon Series. It shows MrBeast as we know him, with a hoodie displaying his name and his facial hair. It seems modest yet friendly, like we know him.

I’ve seen so many MrBeast skins that I am tired of it, but the more famous he gets, the more we see of him. This one will probably always be popular.

2 – Ninja

ninja-with-blue-outfit-and-hair-Fortnite
Image: Epic Games

Released on January 17, 2020, the Ninja skin is a popular Icon Series skin in Fortnite. The skin is based on the American Twitch streamer and esports player of the same name. This was the skin that launched the Icon Series, and there is no streamer that is more recognizable for Fortnite than Ninja.

We’ve seen plenty: NickMercs, TimTheTatman, DrDisRespect, Tfue, SypherPK, Myth, and so many more, but none have had the staying power for Fortnite that Ninja has. I still love the skin and hate myself for not having bought it when it first released. it’s so perfect, and Ninja still uses it sometimes when he plays Fortnite.

1 – Marshmello

fortnite-marshmello-outfits
Image: Epic Games

Released on February 1, 2019, the Marshmello skin is another popular Icon Series skin in Fortnite. The skin is based on the American electronic music producer and DJ of the same name. There have been a few different skins under the Marshmello Icon brand, so we’re counting them as one since they look very similar.

I liked the look but was never a fan. Still, there’s no denying how loved this skin is.

To keep those players coming back, the developers continue to release new weapons, and while that does make the game fresh, it makes it harder for players to find the best attachments for every weapon. Best Attachments For Every PUBG Gun

All PlayStation Generations In Order Of Release Date https://attackofthefanboy.com/games/all-playstation-generations-in-order-of-release-date/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/games/all-playstation-generations-in-order-of-release-date/#respond Wed, 01 Mar 2023 23:29:00 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=893764 Many gamers know Sony as one of the best console developers. After the release of the PlayStation in 1994, Sony started to produce hit after hit with their console exclusives and their succeeding consoles. Here’s everything you need to know about the PlayStation generations in order of their release dates.

PlayStation (1994)

Playstation-1-1994-all-playstation-generations-in-order.jpeg

The original Playstation paved the way to a cartridge-less era and used CDs to run games instead. The console encapsulated many nostalgic titles, such as Twisted Metal and the first Metal Gear Solid game. Many long-time gamers cherish their original PlayStation since it carries many childhood memories.

PlayStation One (2000)

Playstation-1-2000-all-playstation-generations-in-order
Image: Sony Interactive Entertainment

Sony decided to release an iteration of the original PlayStation, also known as PS1. There are a handful of changes from the original, including a much slimmer design with more compatibility with up-to-date technology at the time. The slim form factor even allowed mods like the LCD Screen Combo to be compatible with the PlayStation.

PlayStation 2 (2000)

Playstation-2-2000-all-playstation-generations-in-order
Image: Sony Interactive Entertainment

The PlayStation 2 is one of the best consoles to have ever graced the gaming community. The console has many iconic games that we still play today, from Kingdom Hearts to Spyro. It’s even evident from the numbers considering that the PS2 is the best-selling console of all time. The PS2 was also one of the first home consoles to offer more than up to four-player multiplayer with the Multitap accessory.

PlayStation 2 Slim (2004)

Once again, Sony released an iteration of its iconic console with the PS2 Slim. With almost similar changes to the form factor, Sony decided to strip down the HDD support and replace its front-loading disc drive with a top-loading one. The PS2 Slim is also much more reliable than the Fat version. Its barebones parts resulted in a quieter and cooler experience. Plus, more players prefer the Playstation 2 Slim over the Fat one simply because it has more colorways and takes less space.

PlayStation Portable (2004)

Playstation-Portable-2004-all-playstation-generations-in-order

Sony ventured into the portable scene with its PlayStation Portable. Although the PSP did not get many ports from its counterpart (PS2), it got many exclusive titles, such as Final Fantasy: Crisis Core, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories, and many more awesome games. It was an exhilarating time for PlayStation fans as they get to play the console anywhere they want.

PlayStation 3 (2006)

Playstation-3-2006-all-playstation-generations-in-order
Image: Sony Interactive Entertainment

The PlayStation 3 is an underrated console due to the colossal success of its predecessor. However, it took a while before it found its footing. One of its best features is backward compatibility with PS2 games (which Sony disabled for some reason). With many issues upon launch, such as high price points and highly complicated tools to properly develop games, the PS3 had its ups and downs. It still became successful to a degree, but not to the extent that its older brother had.

PlayStation 3 Slim (2009)

Playstation-3-slim-2009-all-playstation-generations-in-order
Image: Sony Interactive Entertainment

Following Sony’s routine with its console lineup, it released a Slim version of the PS3. Like its predecessor, the PS3 Slim used less power than its counterpart, making it last longer. It also had a better storage option and a matte finish, which meant it was less likely to garner fingerprints.

PlayStation Vita (2011)

Playstation-Vita-2011-all-playstation-generations-in-order
Image: Sony Interactive Entertainment

The PlayStation Vita is Sony’s second attempt at making a portable console. Although the Vita had a ton of flaws, like its overpriced memory card and fast-draining battery, the console still did well in terms of sales. It’s also JRPG heaven, boasting a surprisingly hefty number of JRPGs on it, from exclusives like World Trigger to well-known titles like Persona 4 Golden.

We can also confidently say that the Playstation Vita was a portable console way ahead of its time. It has a touch screen, a decent LCD/OLED screen, a back touchpad, left and right analog sticks, and a better D-pad than the PSP. The console had potential, one that Sony could have capitalized on but didn’t.

PlayStation 3 Super Slim (2012)

Playstation-3-super-slim-2012-all-playstation-generations-in-order
Image: Sony Interactive Entertainment

To many fans’ surprise, Sony released another iteration of the PS3 in the PS3 Super Slim, boasting an even slimmer design than the previous version. It also only used about 190 Watts power supply, half of the original PS3 Fat. The design was almost a hybrid of the Slim and the Fat PS3 with its mixed matte and glossy textures. The PS3 Super Slim is one of the quietest consoles in the market, which meant that Sony did a great job stripping the Slim version further.

PlayStation 4 (2013)

Playstation-4-2013-all-playstation-generations-in-order
Image: Sony Interactive Entertainment

The biggest comeback of Sony’s failure with the PS3 was its successor, the PlayStation 4. The PS4 currently has some of the best Sony exclusives (some of them are formerly exclusive), such as The Last Of Us, Days Gone, Ghost of Tsushima, and Bloodborne. The PS4 also has an upgraded controller with a touchpad, an LED light, and a subjectively better trigger and shoulder buttons. The PS4 was a one-of-a-kind console that firmly cemented Sony as the “King of Consoles.”

PlayStation 4 Slim (2014)

Playstation-4-Slim-2014-all-playstation-generations-in-order
Image: Sony Interactive Entertainment

Like other slim models, the Playstation 4 Slim drastically reduced the console’s power consumption. The console also took up less physical space with a better cooling system. Sony also made the console much more accessible to customers as they can now easily clean and upgrade the HDD of the PS4.

The PS4 Slim comes with an upgraded DS4 controller, which includes a different placement for the LED bar. It lets players seamlessly see which character they control or their health status depending on the game’s implementation of the feature.

PlayStation 4 Pro (2016)

Playstation-4-Pro-2016-all-playstation-generations-in-order
Image: Sony Interactive Entertainment

The PlayStation 4 Pro is an upgraded version of the base PS4. The considerably better GPU provides better graphical fidelity and smoothness for players. Developers also deployed updates to their games, allowing players to opt for a high-fidelity or high-performance mode. Most PlayStation owners today have this specific model.

PlayStation Classic (2018)

Playstation-Classic-2018-all-playstation-generations-in-order
Image: Sony Interactive Entertainment

As a way of celebrating their first-ever console, Sony released the PlayStation Classic. It is a modern take on the PlayStation One. It sports a better GPU and compatibility with modern TVs with an HDMI connection. It also has a feature that can upscale games to 720p, making them look as crisp and HD as possible. The PlayStation Classic is really just an upgraded PlayStation One, so the only games you can play on it are physical copies of games for the old console.

PlayStation 5 (2020)

Playstation-5-2020-all-playstation-generations-in-order
Image: Sony Interactive Entertainment

The PlayStation 5 is one of the most powerful consoles ever by Sony. It rocks a new Dualshock controller with a whole lot of new features. The DualSense and its premium counterpart, Dualsense Edge, are notably known for their adaptive triggers, which primarily adjust the tension your finger will experience depending on the character’s action in-game.

The console pushes the limits of graphics to the next level, and developers will continue even to make more graphically demanding games as the PS5 matures into its next stage of development. A quick look at Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart’s gameplay, one of the console’s first exclusives, will tell you as much.

What are Cloud Striders in Destiny 2? https://attackofthefanboy.com/games/what-are-cloud-striders-in-destiny-2/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/games/what-are-cloud-striders-in-destiny-2/#respond Tue, 23 Aug 2022 21:43:38 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=852149 In the most recent Destiny 2 Showcase, we got a glimpse into Lightfall, the next big Destiny 2 expansion, and a new culture of people called the Cloud Striders. We also got a look at Strand, the new element, and Arc 3.0. For now, let’s take a deeper look at what Cloud Striders are in Destiny 2.

Cloud Striders in Destiny 2

Though we won’t see Lightfall until February 2023, we do know a lot about Cloud Striders. Lightfall will take place on Neomuna, a neon cityscape on Neptune, which is the home of the Cloud Striders. The Witness, the biggest bad in all of Destiny 2, is getting closer and closer to the Traveler and is using vessels to attack humankind. During Lightfall, The Witness controls Calus, the King of Cabal, who was an ally to humanity. Calus and his Shadow Legion are going to reign terror on Neomuna. We, along with the Cloud Striders, need to defend Neomuna and fight The Witness back. The Cloud Striders are a group of humanity that settled and flourished on Neptune. They volunteer among their people to fight the darkness. Cloud Striders are like Guardians for their civilization but they don’t have Ghosts or the Traveler. It is assumed that we as Guardians will work side by side with the Cloud Striders to fight Calus and his army. Unfortunately, that is all we know about Cloud Striders so far. Until Lightfall gets closer, we won’t know much about Cloud Striders, if there is a lead character that we will get to know, or how they will incorporate into the story of Lightfall. For now, check out how to get the 30th Anniversary Pack for free, the best Arc 3.0 builds, and more on our Destiny 2 page. Destiny 2 is available now on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Google Stadia, and PC.

The Ascent Secret Achievements Revealed https://attackofthefanboy.com/games/the-ascent-secret-achievements-revealed/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/games/the-ascent-secret-achievements-revealed/#respond Thu, 29 Jul 2021 22:06:12 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=792059 The Ascent has just released today, straight to Game Pass, complete with both regular and secret achievements. This Curve Digital sci-fi RPG shoot ’em up title, announced at the E3 2021 games showcase, features 46 achievements to unlock, a hefty 15 of which are secret. Keeping achievements hidden like this are usually done to prevent spoiling the story in the description, so do expect minor spoilers ahead. This achievement list is a fairly generic one: story achievements, collectible achievements, cumulative achievements, and a few miscellaneous ones, but nothing stands out as particularly egregious here. For fans of RPGs, this title should be a comparably very straightforward 1000G, and a fun one at that. The full list of achievements will be given below, not just the secret achievements, for player convenience.

The Ascent Secret Achievements

The-Ascent-Secret-Achievements Here are the 15 secret achievements in The Ascent.

  • Comprehensive (50G) You filled the Codex
  • Curious consumer (15G) You read 10 datapads
  • Flatliner (50G) Unlocked all enemy Codex entries

The hardest part of getting this completion will likely be unlocking all of the enemy Codex entries, though the game is new, so once some time has elapsed and collectible guides are out, that achievement may be no problem. The secret achievements seem to be all story-related, with the possible exceptions of “Next Level AI” and “Appreciation”, while the cumulative achievements like “Getting out of the slums” and “Suicidal” seem like they’ll just come naturally without really thinking about them. The Ascent is available to play today on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC.

Mordhau How to Vote Kick a Player https://attackofthefanboy.com/games/mordhau-how-to-vote-kick-a-player/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/games/mordhau-how-to-vote-kick-a-player/#respond Thu, 30 May 2019 08:47:06 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=724284 The multiplayer medieval battle game, Mordhau may be taking the PC Gaming world by storm, but with that popularity comes plenty of griefing.  Unfortunately, the vote to kick system in the game that is in place is a little bit obscure.  It requires that players dig into the console commands for the game to get the job done.  This guide will explain how to vote kick a player in Mordhau and how to set up a keybind to bring up the console options. The first step in being able to vote kick a player in Mordhau is to set-up your keybinding to bring up the console.  By default there is no setting for this out of the box.

Keybind for Console in Mordhau

To vote kick you will have to set a keybind to bring up the console.  This can be done in the following folder:  Steam\steamapps\common\Mordhau\Mordhau\Config. In the defaultinput.ini you can choose to bind the console key to whatever feels good for you.  A popular button to have the console commands accessible under the ~ key, but you can set it to whatever you want.

How to Vote kick in Mordhau

Now that you can access the console, you will then need to type the following: votekick “playername”.   There are some situations where a player might be using weird characters that make them harder to votekick.  You can also votekick via the player with their sever ID.  This number can be found next to their steamID64 and their steam name.  You can also use votekick “server ID” to vote to kick a player in Mordhau as well. A couple of things to keep in mind is that you have to type in the player’s exact name or the right Server ID number to execute the vote kick.  Otherwise, it will not work.

No formal release date was announced, but it’s already available as an Early Access title on the Epic Games Store and Supergiant Games already confirmed that the game will be getting regular updates with new features, events, characters, places, powers, and more. How to Heal in Call of Duty Blackout Battle Royale https://attackofthefanboy.com/games/how-to-heal-in-blackout-battle-royale/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/games/how-to-heal-in-blackout-battle-royale/#respond Fri, 12 Oct 2018 17:54:23 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=710925 The Blackout Mode in Black Ops 4 is very similar to other Battle Royale Modes in that you can heal your character if you take damage.  That is assuming that you’ve got healing items on you.  There are a number of different healing items that are available in Blackout, and they range from common items like first aid which will heal a small amount of health to bigger items like Trauma Kits which will replenish all your health and then some. So where do you find these healing items?  If you’ve played Battle Royale, you’ll know that it’s completely luck of the draw.  You can find them in buildings.  You can pick them up from enemies that you kill. You can heal in Blackout by equipping an item and then pressing the L1 button (PlayStation) or LB button (Xbox).  You’ll want to look at the bottom left of the screen to see which item that you have selected before you press the button though.  You can access your inventory in Blackout by pressing up on the options button (PS4) or Start button (Xbox One). You can access these items by hitting up on the D-Pad.  And then use the left and right d-pad to cycle through items.  The items in the middle are perks, the items on the right are equipment, and the healing items are on the right.  Once you land on the one you want just press square to equip.  You can then use the item by pressing L1 (PlayStation 4) or LB (Xbox One).

Call of Duty Blackout Battle Royale How to Change Characters https://attackofthefanboy.com/games/blackout-battle-royale-how-to-change-characters/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/games/blackout-battle-royale-how-to-change-characters/#respond Fri, 12 Oct 2018 17:54:02 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=710922 Call of Duty’s new Blackout Battle Royale Mode is going to set 80 players loose on an island with the last person/team standing being the winner.  That doesn’t mean that everyone has to look the same though.  You can change your character model and what they look like as well as their gender. There are a few different options available to Blackout players.  To see them, you’re going to want to head into the character menu.  From there you can select from Blackout character models, popular zombies mode characters, as well as Specialists from the Black Ops 4 multiplayer mode. In the Blackout section, players can either select the default character.  From there, if you press the Triangle button (PlayStation) or Y Button (Xbox), you can further personalize this character from a couple of different generic male and female avatars.  As you can see, there are also “Icons” in this mode, but it’s currently unclear how to unlock Mason, Menendez, Reznov, or Woods. Unlocking these characters will likely be tied to some sort of performance goal, whether that be just playing the game, wins, kills, or other. As far as we’ve seen so far, character models do not impact anything in terms of gameplay or give you unique weapons as everything needs to be picked and found in-game. Head here for a full list of these different characters in Blackout and how to unlock them.

How to Get Zombies Weapons in Call of Duty Blackout Battle Royale https://attackofthefanboy.com/games/how-to-get-zombies-weapons-in-blackout-battle-royale/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/games/how-to-get-zombies-weapons-in-blackout-battle-royale/#respond Fri, 12 Oct 2018 17:53:58 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=711060 There are a lot of different weapons from the Zombies mode of Call of Duty that will be found in the new Blackout Battle Royale Mode.  You’re going to have to go out hunting for these items if you want them though.  During the course of any Blackout match, players will be able to go on the hunt for these Zombies weapons by heading to the different locations that have a blue light beam shooting into the sky.  This marks the spot where there are zombies on the map, and where there are zombies, there are powerful weapons to pick-up as you’ll be fighting against AI Zombies and any other human opponents that are also looking for the powerful Blackout gear. The blue lights will appear a short while after the round begins.  There are numerous locations that you can target for these weapons, just head towards the light.  In these areas you’ll find items like the Monkey Bomb, Acid Bomb, Zweihander, The Essex Model 07, and others like the all powerful Ray Gun.  All of these weapons are pretty powerful.  The Zweihander is a high capacity LMG, the Essex is a single shot rifle with a fast reload, and the Ray Gun shoots energy beams. Whether or not you find any of these weapons will pretty much depend on if you’ve uncovered the Zombie cache in the area. This cache looks like the Mystery Box in Call of Duty Zombies.  Just open the box and see what’s inside, it could be any of these weapons mentioned above or things like Level 3 Armor, Rocket Launchers, and other powerful weapons.  These weapons can certainly give you a leg up on the competition but, you’ll be fighting both AI controlled zombies and any other humans that are in the area.

At any time you can access these items by pressing the Options Button (PlayStation 4) or Start Button (Xbox One).  But what getting to them even quicker?  You can do that by pressing up on the d-pad.  All of the items you have in your inventory will be available here.  Once in the quick inventory menu, just use the left and right d-pads to scroll through your items.  On the far left are your health items, in the middle are perks, and on the right is equipment and any attachments that you have that will fit the current gun you are using. Once you’re on the perk or equipment just hold the Square Button (PlayStation 4) or the X Button (Xbox One) to use the item.  Perks last only a limited time, while different equipment will have different lifespans. Just remember, once you go into the quick menu you’ll have to press down on the d-pad to get out of the menu.  Not closing the quick menu will make it so that you cannot do things like exit vehicles or open doors.

What is the Blue Light in Call of Duty Blackout Battle Royale? https://attackofthefanboy.com/games/what-is-the-blue-light-in-blackout-battle-royale/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/games/what-is-the-blue-light-in-blackout-battle-royale/#respond Fri, 12 Oct 2018 17:53:04 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=710974 Have you seen the blue light in Blackout Battle Royale? If you’ve got the basics down in the new Call of Duty game mode it may be time to start branching out and trying to get some even better gear by fighting zombies. The bright beam of light on the Blackout Map indicates the location where zombies are spawning. If you head to the blue light in Blackout Battle Royale, you’ll find a horde of zombies waiting for you. The good news is that these zombies will drop gear when killed, but if a zombie installation is cleared you’ll get a Zombies Supply Cache as well. This cache looks like the wooden mystery box. So far, players have uncovered some pretty powerful gear in these Zombie caches, this includes Wonder Weapons from the popular cooperative mode, the Ray Gun, things like Monkey Bombs, or others. Heading to the blue light beam in Blackout Battle Royale is a solid strategy for high-end gear, but be on the lookout, other players will be there fighting for that gear as well. You very may well run into a player vs. player vs. enemy situation.

How to Switch Gun Attachments in Call of Duty Blackout Battle Royale https://attackofthefanboy.com/games/how-to-switch-gun-attachments-in-blackout-battle-royale/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/games/how-to-switch-gun-attachments-in-blackout-battle-royale/#respond Fri, 12 Oct 2018 17:53:01 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=710929 Weapon Attachments are a big part of the Call of Duty experience.  They do things like silence your weapon, reduce the recoil, or make them more accurate.  Gun attachments have made their way to the Blackout Mode and you’re gonna wanna learn how to quickly equip them when you find something you want. Like just about every other thing in Blackout, Gun Attachments can be switched in a couple of different ways.  If you’re picking up a new items off the ground and you can equip the attachment on your gun (not all attachments work with every gun) you will see that you have two prompts.  If you can equip the attachment you can do so with the Square Button (PlayStation 4) or X Button (Xbox One).  If you just want to save the attachment for later you can pick it up and put it in your inventory with the Triangle Button (PlayStation 4) or Y Button (Xbox One). At any time you can also access your main inventory menu by pressing the Options Button (PlayStation 4) or Start Button (Xbox One).  In this inventory screen you’ll be able to use the in-game cursor to hover over items and if they fit on your weapon you will see a blue square appear in the slot.  If they don’t, you will see a red X in the attachment slot. If you have attachments in your inventory that fit on your weapon, you can always switch to them from the quick menu as well.  These attachments are listed on the far right hand side of the quick inventory screen which is accessed by pressing up on the d-pad.  If you need to make room for other attachments or items, you can always drop the items as well.

Black Ops 4 How to Get Ray Gun in Blackout https://attackofthefanboy.com/games/how-to-get-the-ray-gun-in-call-of-duty-blackout/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/games/how-to-get-the-ray-gun-in-call-of-duty-blackout/#respond Fri, 12 Oct 2018 17:52:32 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=711231 The Ray Gun is one of the most powerful close quarters weapons in Call of Duty Blackout. The Ray Gun is one of the weapons that carries over from Call of Duty Zombies into the Blackout Mode, along with some others that you’ll uncover by focusing on the Zombie infested areas of the Blackout Map.

Where do you get the Ray Gun?

In Mystery Boxes or from killing zombies

Where are the Zombies in Blackout?

The blue light beams will point out zombie locations.

The zombies will be easy to find if you know where to look. Just look for the blue beams of light on the Blackout map. These will point you to locations of Mystery Box Zombies Caches which feature powerful weapons and items. The catch is you’re going to have to contend with Zombie enemies as well as any human enemies if you’re going to snag any of the Zombies Weapons in Blackout. The Ray Gun can drop as a random drop when killing A.I. zombies, or it can drop if you make it to the mystery box and open it up. The mystery box won’t always drop the Ray Gun, nor will a batch of zombies drop the item. It’s going to be completely random, but you will not find the Ray Gun in random drops around the map, you’ll need to pick it up in a zombies location or from a zombie cache. Once you’ve got the Ray Gun, it’s important to note that it does have very little ammunition. It’s also more of a short range weapon that can be devastating when close-up. Things get a little bit more difficult at distance with the weapon.

How to Make Money Fast in Forza Horizon 4 https://attackofthefanboy.com/games/how-to-make-money-fast-in-forza-horizon-4/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/games/how-to-make-money-fast-in-forza-horizon-4/#respond Wed, 26 Sep 2018 01:03:19 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=711944 Making the most money in Forza Horizon 4 is going to be crucial if you want to build out your car collection.  Whether looking for bargains on the auction market or buying cars outright from the Car Showcase, the best cars in Forza Horizon 4 are going to cost a lot of credits.  You can earn credits fast in Forza Horizon 4 by playing the game well, tweaking difficulty settings, getting a little lucky, or paying for a shortcut. The easiest way to earn money fast in Forza Horizon 4 is by doing races.  Microsoft has given some people the option to take a shortcut with the “VIP Bonuses” that they sell separately from the game.  VIP’s get double credits for every single race. If you’re not looking to take the easy route, you can make the game harder and you’ll earn more cash for doing so.  The higher you place in any race or event, the more credits you’ll earn.  Ramping up the difficulty and turning off assists are the two best ways to get credits fast in Forza Horizon 4. From the main menu head into the settings option and then difficulty settings.  From here you change drivatar difficulty for an overall credits boost.  Then you can continue to turn assists off that will further increase the number of credits that you earn from each race.  There’s a handy section in the difficulty menus that will show you how many more credits you will earn for turning off a specific assist.  Be careful though, turning off things like traction control, stability control, and braking and steering assists can make it way more difficult to drive. Of course you can also leave your credit grinding in Forza Horizon 4 up to luck as well.  Any time that you do a Wheelspin or Super Wheelspin you’ll have an opportunity to earn credits in bundles.  Stash some wheelspins and there’s a good chance that you will walk away with 100’s of thousand of extra Horizon credits. If you’re more of a business-person, you can turn to the auction house to get fast money in Forza Horizon 4.  You can put cars that you earn in wheelspins up for sale on the auction house or you can design skins and couple them with vehicles to attract buyers.  Savvy auction house sellers can flip cars as well.  See something on the auction house that looks like a bargain?  Purchase it and then re-sell it to earn fast credits in Forza Horizon 4.

The garage menu in Horizon 4 can be accessed at a couple of different locations in the game.  The first is when you are spawning at any of the locations/houses that you own.  The second is from the Horizon Festival hub.  From either of these places you will have access to a menu system that allows you to customize your vehicles or hop straight into license plate customization for the car you are currently in. Once you’ve got the garage menu available you’ll see that there is a tab for customizing license plate.  Simply click on that tab and it will open a license plate editor for your vehicle. You can also change the license plate for the car you are currently driving in Forza Vista.  You would do it from the same menu system but you will do it a bit differently.  You can press the X Button while looking in this menu to access Forza Vista.  This will allow you to move the camera to the back of the car where you can select the license plate to alter the text.

If you need to do a quick reset of your cosmetic damage, you can do so by using the photo mode in the game.  From any point in the open world you can access the photo mode in Forza Horizon 4 by pressing up on the d-pad. Once you’re in the photo mode you can reset cosmetic damage with the LB Button.  Resetting damage while in photo mode will persist with you back into racing so if you don’t like the way your car looks it will be restored to its previous glory by resetting cosmetic damage in the photo editor. If you have simulation damage turned on you’re going to be throwing a lot of stuff out of wack if you start crashing into things.  You may notice your car drifting to one side of the road to another or the engine not being able to get up to top speed.  If this is the case and you want to reset this simulation style damage you can simply return to any of the homes that you own on the map for a clean start.

Once you got the map open the places you can fast travel will show you the option to do so either on the icon when hovering over them or at the bottom of the screen.  To fast travel you will always press the X button to do so.  If you can fast travel it will cost you a certain amount of CR to get there. Places that you can fast travel to include the Horizon festival (Big H) on Map.  You can also fast travel to current home or other homes that you have purchased for an amount that is determined by how much progress you have made in the game. The amount it costs to fast travel is dependent on how many fast travel billboards that you smash through in the game.  Smash more boards and you will pay far less to fast travel to these locations. Fast travel billboards are the purple icons on the map with a lightning bolt on them.

Fortunately, if you want to make a private match you can race in any season that you want.  If you head to the main menu and the select the team adventure tab, you can create a new session from there.  Upon creating the new session you will be prompted with the option to select whether you would like to race in the Autumn, Winter, Spring, or Summer. Other than this, you will just need to wait for the seasons to change in-game.  This will be a certain amount of days and hours where the game world resets to a new season.  You can check the season progress and how long is left in each season by heading to the Horizon Life tab in the main menu where the Season Planner will give you the amount of time remaining in the season as well as the different challenges that are currently ongoing in the current season.

When doing manual shifting, the default buttons for changing gears are going to be the B Button and X Button.  To shift gears up you will press the B Button and to downshift you will press the X button.  These default controls can be changed with different controller layouts. Choosing manual shifting with clutch requires a little bit more skill as it’s not as simple as pressing one button to shift.  Using the Manual with clutch option you will need press another button to get a smooth shift.  This is the Left Bumper (LB) by default.  To shift with clutch you will quickly press the LB Button and then either the up or down shift button. It’s important to remember that when using manual shift you will also need to shift manually into reverse which is done by downshifting all the way to reverse. Shifting manually does take a little while to get used to but the benefits are many once you’ve got it down.

Forza Horizon 4 How to Tune Cars https://attackofthefanboy.com/games/forza-horizon-4-how-to-tune-cars/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/games/forza-horizon-4-how-to-tune-cars/#respond Tue, 25 Sep 2018 15:26:37 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=711934 Forza Horizon 4 offers a deep level of customization when it comes to car upgrades and tuning.  Whether you’ve got a stock vehicle or one that’s been highly modified with upgrades you can tune cars to your specific liking in a number of different areas. You can tweak things like tires, alignment, roll bars, springs, damping, areodynamics, braking, and differential.  All of these options will impact your car in different ways.

Tires

Tire tuning allows you to select the PSI for your front and rear tires.  Setting tire pressure higher increases speed and responsiveness of the car, but can also lead to sudden loss of grip.  Setting pressure lower can cause the tires to heat faster but can reduce responsiveness.

Gears

Gears in Forza Horizon can be adjusted to provide better top speeds or more acceleration.  These can be adjusted one by one, manually, or can be done through the Final Drive gear ratio which will basically allow you to decide whether you want a car with high top speed or high acceleration.

Alignment

Changing the alignment of a vehicle in Horizon 4 can be a little bit daunting as there are multiple options to deal with in Front and Rear Camber, Front and Rear Toe, and Front Caster.  Changing any of these options will have drastic impact on who your car performs on straight lines and in corners.  Negative camber will do things like reduce understeer and increase corning at the cost of having less control on straight aways.  Positive Camber on the other can reduce oversteer but also end up making the car unstable.

Antiroll Bars

Antiroll bars can give you extra stability when taking corners.  Antisway bars can be adjusted to be soft or stiff for both the front and rear of the car.  Decreasing stiffness will result in reducing oversteer.  Increasing stiffness can increase oversteer.

Springs

Adjusting springs have a bunch of different options as well.  You can make them soft or stiff in the front and rear, but you can also adjust the ride height of the vehicle here as well.

Aerodynamics

Downforce can be adjusted in Horizon 4 to help with more speed or give a car better handling in corners.  Adjustments can be made in the front and rear of the car.  Increasing downforce can keep your car more grounded, while heating tires more quickly and improving handling.  The downside is that too much downforce will cause excessive drag which can then decrease maximum speed, increase tire wear and fuel consumption.

Brakes

Braking will help your car stop faster with Braking Force adjustments that can be made to balance and pressure of the brakes themselves.  This can help with braking distance as well as understeer and oversteer for your car.  Adjusting breaking balance from front to rear will reduce car stability and give a bit of oversteer under heavy braking.  Moving from rear to front will increase stability with a big bump to understeer. You can access all of the tuning options from the upgrades section of the game’s menu.  Here a small tab labeled tuning will allow you to experiment with different options.  You can also find new community tunes or store different tunes to apply on vehicles.  As each tune works differently depending on the car, the best bet is to try out some different tuning options on the road to see how changes have impacted the vehicle.

How to Buy Cars in Forza Horizon 4 https://attackofthefanboy.com/games/how-to-buy-cars-in-forza-horizon-4/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/games/how-to-buy-cars-in-forza-horizon-4/#respond Tue, 25 Sep 2018 15:00:25 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=711930 Forza Horizon 4 is all about collecting cars and taking them out into the open world to race.  Getting cars will come in a number of different ways, but the fastest and easiest way to get the exact car that you want is to buy them. You can buy cars in Forza Horizon 4 in a couple of different places.  The first place to buy cars in Horizon 4 is through the game’s menu system.  When you’re at a purchased home you can access this by pressing the start button and then hovering over the Browse Cars menu which is smack dab in the middle of the Autoshow tab. Here you can browse through all of the different cars that are available.  Once you find the one you want to purchase, you can do so if you have the credits available to spend.  Once you select the car you want to purchase you will be greeted with a number of different design options from different creators in Forza Horizon 4.  You can either download unique designs or press the Y Button for different color options.  After selecting a design you will then be given a confirmation screen for your transaction. The other way to buy cars in Forza Horizon 4 is through the in-game auction house.  This is once again in the game’s home or horizon festival menus where you can search for cars, look at put different cars on a watchlist.  Auctions will run for a set period of time and will have both bid prices and buy out prices.  If you are willing to pay what the seller is asking without trying to be the highest bidder you can take down an auction with the auction buy out option. These two tools will be your best option for buying cars in Forza Horizon 4 within the game.

How to Drift in Forza Horizon 4 https://attackofthefanboy.com/games/how-to-drift-in-forza-horizon-4/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/games/how-to-drift-in-forza-horizon-4/#respond Tue, 25 Sep 2018 14:15:47 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=711926 Knowing how to drift in Forza Horizon 4 is going to come in handy as it’s a big part of this year’s game.  There are numerous drift challenges in the game, as well as a full fledged story sequence in the game.  Here’s everything we know about how to drift in Forza Horizon 4.

Forza Horizon 4 How to Drift

  • Press the Left Trigger to break when going around corners at high speed
  • Press the A button for E-brake to trigger manual drift
  • Steer through drift with the left thumbstick

The easiest way to drift in Forza Horizon 4 is by using a combination of steering and the emergency break.  In Forza Horizon 4, not all cars are created equally so some vehicles are going to be better than others when it comes to drifting.  For optimal results you’re going to want to be both a master of the controls and have a car that’s tuned for drifting. If you’re going for the absolute best score, you’re going to want to go into the game’s settings and turn off traction control.  It’s one of the biggest things that might be limiting your drifting ability in any car.  Second, for better drift results you’re also going to want to take a look at whether the car is rear wheel, front wheel, or all-wheel drive.  Rear wheel drive vehicles are much better for drifting than the others.  Lastly you’re going to want to be looking for cars that have high horsepower and low weight.  If you can’t find one you can always customize one in your garage to fit this bill. Digging even deeper into the tuning for a car can really help you with drifting.  Experimenting with different set-ups in terms of tires and suspension will also get you better results for drifts. The simple answer is that you can drift with any car in Forza Horizon 4 by either threading/tapping the Left Trigger at high speeds, or you can go into a manual drift by pressing the emergency brake as well.  Doing this while attempting to steer the car around a corner will allow you to earn drift points and complete challenges.

NBA 2K – Post Moves List, How to Play Better in the Post with Big Men https://attackofthefanboy.com/games/nba-2k19-post-moves/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/games/nba-2k19-post-moves/#respond Fri, 14 Sep 2018 02:10:33 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=711148 NBA 2K19 has had a refined post-up game for a couple of years.  While it may be a dying art in the real NBA, a true big man that has moves in the post to create shots is a valuable asset to any team.  In NBA 2K19 here are all of the different posts moves you can do and how to do them. The basics of the post up is getting your back to the defense player.  This can be done by pressing the LT Button (Xbox) or L2 Button (PlayStation).  Once you’re posting up on a defensive player you can use the sticks to do a variety of different moves, this includes things like pivot moves, backdowns, drives, and spin moves. Using the pivot move while posting can be a great way to get position and can be done by pressing the Left Stick in any direction.  Release the stick to pivot in that direction.  If you want to spin around your opponent or drive to the hoop you can use the Right Stick in a counter-clockwise or clockwise motion to pull off these moves. If you want to do an agressive backdown move you can do so by pressing the RT Button (Xbox) or R2 Button (PlayStation).  You can do a dropstep in the post by using the Left Stick left or right towards the hoop and then tap the X Button (Xbox), or Square Button (PlayStation). There are also a number of post drives that allow you to drive to the key or drive the baseline.  These can both be done pretty much the same way by pressing RT (Xbox) or R2(PlayStation) flick the Left Stick Towards either the Key or Baseline and then release LT. Alongside all of these you can always use post fakes and post hops to get better position.  The Post Hop requires that you press the Left Stick left, right, or away from the hoop and then tap X.  The fake is just done by moving the Right Stick in any direction and then quickly releasing it. There are a bunch of post shots that can be taken with the shot stick as well.

Post Moves NBA 2K19

  • Post Hook – Right Stick Up Left or Up Right
  • Post Fade – Right Stick Down Left or Down Right
  • Post Layup – Right Stick Up Left or Up Right while moving toward hoop with Left Stick
  • Post Shimmy – Right Trigger with Right Stick down
  • Post Shimmy Hook – Right Trigger with Right Stick Up

NBA 2K19 How to Face Scan https://attackofthefanboy.com/games/nba-2k19-how-to-face-scan/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/games/nba-2k19-how-to-face-scan/#respond Fri, 14 Sep 2018 01:52:24 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=711131 Being able to slap your ugly mug on your created player is one of the coolest features about NBA 2K19.  Unfortunately, there is much information on the feature within the game itself.  So here’s what you’ll need to import your face into NBA 2K19. First you’re going to need the My2K19 App for mobile devices.  Once you’re in the app, it’s going to give you the option to scan your face right away.  Just select this option and then you’ll be prompted to pick the service that you’re playing the game on, whether that’s Xbox Live, PlayStation Network, Nintendo Switch Online, or on Steam.  You’ll then need to login with that account to make the scanned face available to use. Now’s for the tricky part as you want to get a good picture for your player.  You’re going to use the tool within the app to take the picture but you’re going to need sufficient lighting and the ability to move your head back and forth so the app can scan your face.  Once it’s got a good picture it will spit out a model for you and then you can choose whether or not you want to use it or try again.  Sometimes it will also warn you that an error has occurred and that you should try again.  If that’s the case just try it again until you’ve got a good image. Once both you and the app are satisfied it will then upload the images to your profile.  Once they’ve been upload you can check out your character on your My Career game mode.  You may need to restart your game for the changes to be applied to your player in My Career or your avatar in the game. If you’re creating a brand new My Player, you’ll want to have the pictures ready before you do your head selection on your player.  At the bottom of the head selection screen which gives you a bunch of different pre-made heads to choose from you’ll see an option press X to scan your face.  At which point the game will look for saved data from the My 2K19 App.  If you’ve got face scan data uploaded, you’ll be able to switch the head by clicking on the face scan square in the menu.

NBA 2K19 How to Double Team https://attackofthefanboy.com/games/nba-2k19-how-to-double-team/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/games/nba-2k19-how-to-double-team/#respond Fri, 14 Sep 2018 00:52:34 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=711128 Double teaming a player is the best way to try and stop them from scoring in real basketball.  Double team in NBA 2K19 is an equally viable strategy if you want to try and stop someone from scoring.  Calling for a double team in NBA 2K19 will call another defender to the one that you are defending with a player.

How to Call for Double Team NBA 2K19

  • Hold LB Button (Xbox)
  • Hold L1 Button (PlayStation)

This can be done by pressing and holding the LB Button (Xbox) or L1 Button (PlayStation). Once you press and hold the button while on defense a player that you are not controlling will come to help you defend the player who has the ball. It should be noted that when calling for a double team you will leave another person open, sometimes for an easy basket at the hoop or for an uncontested shot.  Double Team in NBA 2K19 should be used when there is a good opportunity to trap the offensive player and potentially steal the ball.

There are numerous types of dunks in NBA 2K19 and each of them require different inputs on the controller.  Your best chance to get a dunk in NBA 2K19 is to have a player with a high stats for the move.  Your second best chance to get a dunk in NBA 2K19 is to be driving towards the basket. Press RT (Xbox), R2 (PlayStation) + Hold Up on Right Stick while driving to hoop.

Flashy Dunk

If you’ve got a team mate that is moving towards the basket or near the basket, you can double tap Y button to throw an alley-oop in NBA 2K19.  It’s the same system as previous years so you’ll pretty much need to have a clear lane to throw and catch the ball to make it a success. There are some options as to where you are throwing the ball.  You’ll need to use the Left Stick in the direction of the player that you want to receive the pass.  Or, you can press the Left Stick towards the hoop to throw an alley oop to yourself. The best times to use an alley oop are in 2 on 1 fast break situations or situations where a player is cutting toward the basket without a defender near him.  Once you’ve got one of these situations, you can just double tap Y and use the Left Stick to direct the alley-oop.

NBA 2K – How to Flop https://attackofthefanboy.com/games/nba-2k19-how-to-flop/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/games/nba-2k19-how-to-flop/#respond Thu, 13 Sep 2018 23:54:15 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=711143 Flopping isn’t one of the most effective basketball moves, but it’s a real thing in the NBA so NBA 2K19 features it as well.  Players can actually press a button to flop on the ground whether close to players or not.

How to Flop in NBA 2K19

  • Press B Button Twice (Xbox)
  • Press Circle Button Twice (PlayStation)

Flopping in NBA 2K19 is pretty easy to do.  Simply double tap the B button to flop to your heart’s content. Flopping will instantly send your player falling to the ground and it does take a few seconds to recover from flopping so it’s not a very good strategy to implement. Flopping can also be used when pressing the B button to attempt to take a charge.  Just hold the B button to take a charge and then double tap to fall backwards when an opponent is coming towards you.  We’ve yet to get this to translate into a charging call but if you’re going to try and take the charge you might as well sell it.

Flop Controls NBA 2K19

Flopping in NBA 2K19 Can be done by pressing the B Button (Xbox), Circle Button (PlayStation).

NBA 2K – How to Call for a Pick https://attackofthefanboy.com/games/nba-2k19-how-to-call-for-a-pick/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/games/nba-2k19-how-to-call-for-a-pick/#respond Thu, 13 Sep 2018 23:40:39 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=711144 Calling picks is one of the most essential parts of basketball.  In NBA 2K19, calling for picks can allow you to get free for open jump shots or open a clear path to the basket for a lay-up or dunk.  Picks in NBA 2K19 function pretty similarly as they have in previous games.

How to Call for Pick NBA 2K19

  • Hold the LB Button (Xbox)
  • Hold the L1 Button (PlayStation)

With control of the ball handler, you will hold the LB Button (Xbox), L1 (PlayStation) button to call for a pick.  Once the pick is set you can decide what to do from there. After you’ve called for the pick you can press the Left Thumbstick in to select which side you would like the pick to be set.  You can also select which way that you want the picker to go afterward by selecting either Pick and Roll or Pick and Fade by pressing the RB button (Xbox), R1 button (PlayStation). The Pick and Roll will have the player rolling off of the pick to the basket.  A pick and fade will have the picking player fading away from the basket. Use the pick to get free from a defender in a variety of situations or use the play to try and get a defensive mismatch where a bigger player is matched up with a smaller player.

NBA 2K19 How to Restart The Prelude https://attackofthefanboy.com/games/nba-2k19-how-to-restart-the-prelude/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/games/nba-2k19-how-to-restart-the-prelude/#respond Thu, 13 Sep 2018 22:52:30 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=711107 Before you jump into the My Career mode in NBA 2K19 you’ll play through a story mode for the game called The Prelude.  In this mode your character, the main character charts a different path to the NBA which takes him from Chine to the NBA D-League, to the pros. This story mode features a number of different choices and possibilities that will have you landing on a number of different NBA teams at its conclusion.  You’ll also earn VC (Virtual Currency) to improve your player by completing different challenges.  It’s understandable that you might want to restart the Prelude in NBA 2K19, but unfortunately that is not possible. The Prelude cannot be restarted because the mode was designed to be played only once and it’s on a console level.  So your gamertag or PSN ID can only play through The Prelude one time. Deleting your save data does not allow you to restart The Prelude. Unfortunately, if you were coming looking for a way to restart it, it’s just not possible with the demo. Once you own NBA 2K19 you can replay this story based content by starting a new save.  With this new save you can then create an entirely new player and take them through the events of The Prelude again and perhaps get a different outcome the second time around.
